Dear Anon,
Frankly, there is no harm in placing a cross on your door.
Often, when we read about Feng Shui, often it is not good to have two doors directly facing each other. This is because, there may be a possibility or a high probability of logger-heads between the two parties.
For example, small things such as shoes strewn along the main enterance or noise coming from the neighbour. Even uneasyness of lack of privacy if both parties open their doors is considered unfavourable.
Given all these, there is therefore a high chance of neighours being irritated with each other.
A Lose-Lose situation?
A lose-lose situation is when each party view the other with concern. For example, if the neighbour or we (ourself) first hang say a ba gua mirror, the other neighbour may not have a choice but also (instead) have to hang a mirror to neutralise it.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
